Announcing the launch of the Chilean Salmon Market Council

This important initiative of the salmon industry in Chile means a great advance in the work of positioning our product in the main destination market of Chilean salmon, as is the United States. This institute will seek to reduce the gap of competitiveness that our sector has against other salmon producing countries, through information and marketing work, building a brand for the long term, highlighting the important attributes and origin, the Chilean Patagonia.
Chilean Salmon Marketing Council will reveal the history of Chilean salmon in all its contexts and show the sustainable environment of its production

Ricardo García, CEO, Camanchaca

Mr. García holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a Master's degree in Economics from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Mr. García is a past Co-Chairman of the Global Salmon Initiative, and former President of the American-Chilean Chamber of Commerce. Before joining Camanchaca, Mr. García served as President of the Latin America and the Caribbean Division of American Life Insurance Company (ALICO/AIG). He has been a teacher in areas of economics and finance at prestigious Chilean universities.

José Ramón Gutiérrez, Executive President, Multiexport

José Ramón Gutiérrez joined the Multiexport group in 1985 as Finance and Administration Manager. He became Operations Manager in 1986 and was General Manager of Alimentos Multiexport S.A. from 1987 to 1993. He is the Executive President of Multiexport S.A. since 1993. He has also been director of the Chilean Salmon Industry Association for over 10 years, its vice president during 2001 and 2002 and its president in 2002 and 2003. He is also founding director of the Salmon of the Americas international organization (SOTA).

Daniel Montoya, Commercial Manager Salmon, Blumar

Born and rased in Concepcion, Chile. Daniel has been employed with El Golfo and Blumar (after the merger with Itata in 2011) since 1993. He is the Sales & Marketing Director for Salmones Blumar, including being responsible for the plant that processes 35,000 MT of salmon per year. Previously he launched Blumar’s sales branch in the US, where he spent 3 years.
Daniel is a board member New World Currents, a commercial joint venture with offices in China and BluGlacier, the recently formed alliance with Ventisqueros in the US. He holds an Engineering degree from Universidad de Concepcion and and MBA from Universidad del Desarrollo.

Phil Gibson, CEO, Resiliensea Group

Phil Gibson’s experience in the seafood/meat industries spans over 30 years. From 1991 through 2012 he was at Safeway USA, holding a number of management positions at both regional and corporate levels. Since 2005 he was corporate Seafood Group Director and was responsible for sales and profits, sustainable sourcing, marketing, private-label products and retail training and execution programs. He was the driving force for the Waterfront Bistro frozen seafood line that produces sales of over $100 million annually and was the architect for Safeway’s groundbreaking Sustainable Seafood program. In 2011 he was the recipient of the SeaWeb Seafood Champion award for his work on sustainability issues. Phil’s current position is CEO of Resiliensea Group, which advises select companies and environmental conservation organizations, including retailers and suppliers. Their focus is helping companies to develop practical and credible programs for improved sourcing and selling practices.

Ambassador Juan Gabriel Valdés, Chilean Ambassador to the USA

Juan Gabriel Valdés has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations; Ambassador of Chile to Spain and Argentina. He also served as Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations and Chief of the United Nations Mission in Haiti, MINUSTAH. Mr. Valdés holds an M.A. in Latin American Studies at the University of Essex, England, and a PhD in Political Science from Princeton University, and has been a research fellow at Princeton University and at Notre Dame Kellogg Institute of International Relations. He has also taught Latin American International Relations at the University of La Sorbonne in Paris, France. Since 2010 he has been a consultant for the Economic Commission for Latin America, (CEPAL) of the United Nations and of CAF, Development Bank for Latin America. Mr. Valdés is a member of the board of the Global Leadership Foundation and of the Center for International Conflict Resolution (CICR) at Columbia University.

Alejandro Buvinic Alarcón, Director of Export Promotion, ProChile

An attorney specializing in foreign trade and international relations, Alejandro Buvinic has working with Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both domestically and abroad, throughout his more than 20 years of professional experience.
Buvinic served as First Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Chile to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and represented Chile on the OECD Trade Committee. He has also served at the Chilean Embassy in the United States and in several other government roles.

Bert Bachmann, President, Camanchaca

Bert Bachmann, President of Camanchaca, is a seafood executive with a career in aquaculture that spans 30 years. He is responsible for the company’s US market, which represents a significant share of gross sales worldwide. Fulfilling Camanchaca’s mission to “feed the world from the ocean” by supplying high-quality fish and shellfish, Bachmann has led the company to become the top purveyor of fresh salmon to many of the country’s leading restaurants, casual dining chains and retailers.

Arturo Clément, Board Member of Ventisqueros

Arturo Clement is the founder and CEO of Multiexport Foods, a position he held until 2009. He has held directorships at both SalmonChile and Intesal. In 2011 Clement established SalmonEx, an online platform for market reports, now called DataSalmon. He now serves as director of Ventisqueros, and holds advisory roles at ActivaQ, ICTIO Biotech and BluGlacier. Clement holds a Civil Engineer and Management Post Degree from the University of Chile.

Pål Korneliussen, Publisher, IntraFish Media

Pål Korneliussen, Publisher of IntraFish Media, has led the company for over 10 years. Before venturing into media Mr. Korneliussen worked in seafood (Lerøy Seafood, Kolnor Trading) and as a Management Consultant in the fish farming industry. Korneliussen holds a Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration.

Drew Cherry, Editorial Director, IntraFish Media

Drew Cherry is the Editorial Director of IntraFish Media, the world's largest seafood news and information provider. Cherry was born and raised in Alaska, and holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Davis, and a Master’s in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California.
